I’m often asked about which Enterprise Architecture tools I recommend.

There are many to consider but my recommendation would be to evaluate just two EA tools:

BiZZdesign Architect (http://www.bizzdesign.com/index.php/tools/architect)

Avolution Abacus (http://www.avolution.com.au/)

Both of these are excellent modern EA tools that have been specifically designed to support Enterprise Architecture modelling, and they don’t have the deficiencies and irritations that many of the other older EA tools have.
You should download the free demo versions and try them out to see which one suites you best.

Another EA tool to consider is the open source tool Archi (http://archi.cetis.ac.uk/) which is improving rapidly. Archi has been funded by JISC to provide a free tool for those making their first steps with the ArchiMate language.

Have you tried iteraplan yet? It’s an Open Source EA modeling tool you may find to be as useful as the others. They too have a free version.

In my opinion an EA Tools needs to go beyond modeling and enter the domain of visualization. I would recommend Dragon1 to anyone: http://www.dragon1.com as web-based EA Tool
